Keyhole ankle surgery
Persistent catching, blocking or pain at the front of the ankle can be exhausting, especially when it follows a sprain that never quite settles. Ankle arthroscopy allows the joint to be inspected and treated through two small portals, so the cause can be addressed with minimal disruption.
What happens
Diagnostic clarity
Where imaging is equivocal, arthroscopy provides a direct view of the cartilage and ligaments and allows treatment in the same sitting.
Cartilage treatment
Unstable cartilage is debrided and microfracture or biologic techniques used to stimulate repair, with bony impingement removed at the same time.
Day case
Performed as a day case, usually taking under an hour, with two portal wounds closed with a single suture each.
